Domestic Wall Masterclass
This collection of Bitesize modules gives an overview of system build wall construction, cavity wall construction, timber frame wall construction, stone wall construction and solid wall construction.
Correct entry of a property’s wall construction is one of the most fundamentally important aspects of an energy assessment, and completion of this module will provide a firm understanding of various aspects relating to wall types.
Chapter one:
This module looks in detail at the main forms of system build housing including metal frame, in-situ concrete and pre-cast concrete panel wall construction. The module also provides a general overview and background to system build wall construction before looking at the different retro-insulation options available for system build walls.
Chapter two:
This module looks in detail at the principles behind cavity wall construction, before then examining the techniques which can be used to ensure that cavities are identified accurately. The module then goes on to look at cavity wall insulation in both new and existing homes, and the techniques involved for retro-fitting insulation.
Chapter three:
This module looks in detail at the principles behind solid brick wall construction, before then examining the techniques which can be used to ensure that solid brick walls are identified accurately. The module then goes on to look at the options available for solid brick insulation including both internal and external options.
Chapter four
This module looks in detail at the principles which underline timber frame wall construction, before going on to look in detail at how timber frame walls can be accurately identified and characterised. The module then finishes by looking at the insulation options which are available for timber frame properties and how feasible these approaches are.
Chapter five:
This module looks at the principles which sit behind stone wall construction and the best means through which stone wall construction can be identified. The module concludes by looking at the insulation options which are available for stone walls and when these methods will be appropriate for a given property.
Completion of the module can also be used to provide 2.5 hour’s worth of CPD towards an assessor’s annual requirement. The module is comprised of a presentation followed up by a short multiple choice quiz, which assessors will need to pass in order to obtain the certificate for the CPD. Upon completion of the module and successful undertaking of the quiz, a copy of the certificate will be provided to the assessors via the Quidos Training team
