Automotive Air Conditioning and Refrigerant Handling Small Systems

For small, mobile applications such as automotive and aircraft, where the refrigeration system element of the equipment contains less than 3 kg of refrigerant in it, the City and Guilds 7543-01 level 3 award in Basic Mobile Air Conditioning (replacing the previous City and Guilds 5101) provides a qualification in both air conditioning and handling refrigerants on this type of equipment.

Please note, this course can only be put on for companies with a number of engineers requiring training. We regret that we cannot run it for individuals.

Anyone working on larger systems containing more than 3 kg of refrigerant in them will need the City and Guilds 2079-11 category 1 or equivalent qualification

Objective

To achieve the City and Guilds 7543-01 level 3 award in Basic Mobile Air Conditioning.

Unit 001 – Handle Refrigerants
This provides an ‘F Gas’ qualification for handling refrigerants on small mobile applications containing less than 3 kg of refrigerant in them. This can be taken as a stand alone module if preferred.

Unit 002 – Basic Mobile Air Conditioning Principles
This can be taken in conjunction with unit 001 and enables operatives to understand and apply basic mobile air conditioning principles and understand and comply with the responsibilities and requirements when carrying out these type of activities.

Unit 003 – Diagnose and repair complex faults – is not available at present.

Methodology

The topics will be covered with emphasis on practical work from the delegate. Basic theory will be demonstrated using a visual air conditioning system. Theoretical work will be assisted by the use of good quality visual aids and discussion sessions.
